Carlton Gray Dixon, 81, of McAdenville, passed away at home with his wife by his side, on December 2, 2021. He was born October 16, 1940, in Wilson County, to the late Jay Bryan and Peggy Lafferty Dixon.
Carlton was a member of First ARP Church, Gastonia. For 15 years, he taught in Gaston County Schools and coached basketball and football. He also worked in real estate and property management. In high school, he played on the state championship football team where he was co-captain. After graduating from Ralph L. Fike High School in Wilson, NC, Carlton attended Catawba College on a football scholarship where he received his bachelor’s degree. He later received his master’s degree from UNCC. In his spare time, Carlton loved golfing, fishing, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Paula Long Dixon; daughters Jennings Elizabeth Dixon and Amanda Dixon Summey; grandchildren Piper Gray Summey, Cohen Denali Summey, and Gaines Elias Summey; brothers Jay Bryan Dixon, Jr. (Eleanor) and Bobby Dixon (Gloria); his aunts Mildred, Margie, Geraldine and Paula’s siblings and their families.
Carlton’s memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at First ARP Church, Gastonia with Pastor Matt Kuiken and Pastor Brian Wood officiating.
The family will receive friends following funeral service.
A private inurnment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
