Charles William Bumgardner, 86, of Bessemer City, passed away on September 11, 2014. He was born August 31, 1928 in Gaston County, NC, to the late Livingston J. and Edna Ramsey Bumgardner.
Charles, a Veteran of the United States Army, served in the Korean War and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Charles was also a member of Hephzibah ARP church. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers at Robin Johnson House for their support and care of Charles.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet C. Bumgardner; sons Steve Bumgardner and wife Kathy, Alan Bumgardner and wife Joy all of Bessemer City, sister-in-law Betty Bumgardner of Bessemer City, grandchildren, Christopher Bumgardner, David Bumgardner, Ariel (Brady) Glover, Amber Bumgardner, Jordan Bumgardner, Zach Chambers, neices, Deniese McGee and Dawn Greene.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert "Bob" Bumgardner; sister Margaret Williams and her husband Hubert.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City and other times at the home of Steve Bumgardner at 228 Tryon School Loop, Bessemer City, NC.
Charles' funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Hephzibah ARP Church, Bessemer City with the Rev. Jeff Osborne and the Rev. Fain Farmer officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites by the Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.
