Chris Trakas

Chris Theo Trakas, 79, of Bessemer City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, March 10, 2015 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC after an extended illness.

Chris was a native of Gaston County; son of the late Theo and Hazel Moore Trakas. He was a retired Insurance Agent of Liberty Life. Chris worked and helped start the Brevard Rescue Squad and the Bessemer City Rescue Squad. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader in Brevard and Bessemer City for many years. Chris was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City.

He was survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Turner Trakas; four sons, Chris Trakas, Jr., and Stephanie; Thomas; Timothy and Emily, Terry and Christy; one brother, George T. Trakas and wife Margaret; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Melody Foster Trakas of Brevard

His funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Friday, at First Wesleyan Church of Bessemer City with Rev. Wes Brown, Rev. Jerry Millwood and F. Dick Whitener officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Gaston Memorial Park Cemetery, Gastonia, NC.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials may be sent to the First Wesleyan Church Youth Fund or The Boy Scouts of America or the Bessemer City Rescue Squad.
