Danny Whitaker

Danny Reed Whitaker, 77, of Bessemer City, passed away at Robin Johnson House on March 18, 2022. He was born April 8, 1944, in Cleveland County, to the late Walter Plato Whitaker and Margaret Pearl Carpenter Whitaker.

Danny is preceded in death by siblings, Peggy Brooks, Bobby Whitaker, Billy Whitaker, Shirley Leach Blanton, Jacky Whitaker, Pearl Sellers, Judy Whitaker, and Kathy Whitaker.

In the past, he coached and umpired youth baseball, basketball, and soccer. He enjoyed attending his sons and grandsons' activities. Danny also loved all sports, keeping up with the stats, and could recall sports history play by play. Most of all, Danny loved spending time with his grandkids.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Darlene Owensby Whitaker; sons, Scott Whitaker (Danielle), Joey Whitaker (Nicole); grandchildren, Cody Whitaker, Daniel Whitaker, Brianna Falls; brother, Roy Whitaker (Louise); brother-in-law, Butch Owensby (Beverly); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Danny will lie in state March 24, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home.

Danny’s graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on March 25, 2022, at Gaston Memorial Park with Pastor Roger Overton officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
