Dorothy "Dot" Farris LaCount, 95, of Bessemer City, passed away on September 20, 2016 at Spartanburg Medical Center. She was born on July 1, 1921 in Gaston County to the late Campbell A. and Minnie Mae Mason Farris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam LaCount and her daughter Shirley LaCount Newton.
Dot was born and raised in Bessemer City. She attended Bessemer City Schools and graduate in 1940. Dot worked for Burlington Inc. as an inspector and she was formerly employed with Osage and Gamble Mills in Bessemer City. Dorothy retired in 1980 to take care of her parents. After the death of her parents she went into caregiving. She loved people and enjoyed caring for them. Dot joined the First Baptist Church at an early age. She loved her church and working on church committees. She was the chairperson for Caring and Sharing and the Homebound committee for 10 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bertha Wilson and husband Buddy of Spartanburg, S.C., her son, Jerry LaCount of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Tammy Grigg, Wendy Miller, Sherry Bradey, Christy Greene, David Wilson, Maryann Acuff, Danielle LaCount; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 pm Friday, September 23, 2016 in the Sisk-Butler Chapel, Bessemer City with Rev. Jerry Millwood, Rev. Dick Whitener and Rev. Tom Ravan officiating.
Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to her service at the funeral home.
