Dorothy Waters

Dorothy M. Waters, 78, of Bessemer City, NC, passed away on December 8, 2013 at home. She was born November 15, 1935 in Cosby, TN, to the late Jesse Theo and Edith Smelcer Matthews.

Dorothy was a loving, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of 1st Assembly of God in Gastonia. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to special caregivers Dr. Lia Spina, Donna and Lisa.

She is survived by her sons, David Waters and wife Betty of Bessemer City, Tim Waters of Gastonia, Rick Waters and wife Kathy of Bessemer City; "step-son" Mike Wray of Bessemer City; sister Vivian Taylor and husband Henry of Bessemer City; brothers George Matthews and wife Judy of Stanley, Johnny Matthews and wife Carolyn of Buena Vista, VA, Gary Matthews and wife Pat of Stafford, Va.; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special friends Dean Baucum and Jenny "Davis" Koon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Waters, sister, Mary Kate Carver; brother Ted Matthews.

Dorothy's funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Westview Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC with the Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating.

The visitation will be one hour prior at the church.

Interment will follow in Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
