Ernestine Frost Kincaid, 94, got the call to heaven and went home on May 1, 2022. She was born May 31, 1927, in Davie County, NC to the late Ernest Henry Frost and Annie Laurie Holton Frost. She was preceded by her husband William Ira Kincaid, Sr who brought her to reside in Bessemer City, NC as his bride in 1947 and celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Ernestine lived to make a difference in the lives of those who crossed her path. She made the most of every opportunity in her marriage, with family and friends, her church and her teaching days at school. She was the favorite of many students. She said at the age of 20, many of her students were older than she as they had returned to school after serving in WW2. She retired in 1978.
Ernestine was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed a lifetime of friendships with her bridge buddies, as she called them. She loved to travel and her favorite trip was in 1960 when she and her husband drove their six children to Denver, CO to visit relatives. Ernestine loved to sing and the family sang all the way there and back home. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her family would gather in her home to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Her grandchildren would sit around her on the floor and listen as she read the Christmas story — Luke 2. Her granddaughter would sing “0 Holy Night” and then the family would sing Christmas carols and tell stories before opening their presents.
Ernestine leaves behind six children and their spouses. Bill (Sally) Kincaid, Sylvia (Roger) Pinson, Don Kincaid whose wife Jackie went to heaven in 2020, Karol (Bill) Whitmire, Joan (Jerry) Riddle and Melanie (Rob) Echerd. She was affectionately known as Mama Ernie to her 17 grandchildren (two of whom are deceased) and 32 great-grandchildren; one surviving sister Betty Frost and as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. Ernestine was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Bunch, Louise Diagle and Anne Frost; two grandsons, Christopher Kincaid and Will Whitmire.
She lived as though there were no days to waste. Even at life's close she said her goodbyes comforting those she loved.
