Eugene "Gene" Blanton, 87, of Bessemer City passed away on October 27, 2013 at home. He was born January 17, 1926 in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Mrs. Frances B. Hoyle.

Gene worked in textiles in his early career but retired from the City of Bessemer City. He was an active member of New Life Baptist Church, Bessemer City until his illness. He loved Gospel Music and sang many years with the Second Baptist Church Quartet. He loved the Lord and shared HIM with all that came in contact with. He was an avid walker and had many friends that he met while walking

He is survived by his daughters Brenda Boyd and husband Sonny, and Jeryl "Lulu" Ware and husband Roy; son Eugene "Bubba" Blanton, Jr. and wife Kasie; his special friend Ms. Betty Melton and his very special dog Suzie.

His funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday at New Life Baptist Church, Bessemer City with Revs. Gene Ware, Dennis Gomez and Eric Ross officiating.

Interment will follow in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery, Bessemer City.

His family will receive friends at New Life Baptist Church Tuesday night from
6:30-8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Brenda and Sonny Boyd.
