Grady Hannah, 79, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. He was born on December 27, 1935 in Gaston County, to the late Wenzlo Donald and Pearlee Weaver Hannah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hope Mason Hannah; sister, Betty Lou Mitchem; brother, Donald Hannah and great-granddaughter, Addison Riley Hannah.
Those he left behind are his daughters, Vonnie R. Hannah and Donna Renet Parris and husband James; brothers, Verlin Hannah and wife Jane, Jerry Hannah and wife Faye, David Hannah and wife Diane; sisters, Yvonne Blackwood and husband John, Janice Arrowood and husband Danny; grandchildren, Sonja Hannah, Melissa Hannah, Chris Parris, and Robbie Parris; great-grandchild, Parker Cornwall; mother of his children, Jeannette S. Hannah; granddaughter, Ashley Nicholson; four stepsons(special thanks and appreciation to Randy Nicholson and wife Lisa), and a number of nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Grady was retired from the U.S. Army where he served in Korea and three tours of duty in Vietnam. During that time, none of his were lost; all came home to their families. He was a humble recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart among other medals. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #254 in Clemson, SC, and was a member of Bessemer City American Legion Post #243 where he also served on the Honor Guard. Grady was a cherished member of Harvest Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, and was greatly loved by his family. He was admired by all who knew him because he was a friend to all and he had a servant's heart. He was always willing to help and serve. Grady will be greatly missed.
Grady's family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, from 2:00-2:45 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services. His service will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel with Rev. Gary Teague officiating. Military honors will be performed by Bessemer City American Legion Post 243 Honor Guard.
Interment will be at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC, to be determined at a later date.
