Gwendolyn Allen

Gwendolyn Massey Allen, 85, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was born in Anderson County, SC, on May 30, 1930 to the late Hershel V. and Velina Nimmons Massey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rev. Billy Allen, and brothers Carlton, Cecil and Ralph Massey.

She is survived by her sons, Curtis L. Allen and wife Suzanne and Randy Allen; daughter, Rebecca Weiler and husband Steve; brothers, Branson Massey and wife Mary and Mick Massey; sister and caregiver, Glenda Owens and husband Don, and sister Wanda Lingerfelt and husband Rich; special friend, Marcie Haynes; grandson, Kerry Allen and wife Riffy; granddaughters, Maitland Allen, Chloe Allen, and April Neve and husband Shanon; great-granddaughter, Ella Neve; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwen worked at Dillard's for 16 years in customer service. She loved to crochet and listen to southern gospel music. She was a faithful member of First Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Agers, the Mothers Sunday School Class and the WNAC. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living (New Hope) for their loving care of Gwen.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. John Gibbs and Rev. Darin Gibbs officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 am before the service at the church and other times at the home of Glenda and Don Owens, 452 McNeil Street, Gastonia, NC 28054.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
