Homer Gates

Homer Albert Gates, 78, of Gastonia passed away on October 23, 2013 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia. He was born March 14, 1935 in Jackson County, NC, to the late John Homer and Fannie Queen Gates. In 1949 he resided in Gaston County.

Albert was a very strong loving family man and he worked in textiles around 50 years.

He is survived by his sons David Gates and wife Renee of Shelby and Wayne Gates and wife Misty of Kings Mountain; daughter, Debra Lee Swayney and husband Paul of the home; sisters Faye Bollas of Fall River, Massachusetts and Girlene Ledford of Columbia, SC.; grandchildren Elizabeth Snyder, Richard Gates, Ronald Lee, Summer Lee, Jesse Simpson, Nikki Lambert, Darla McKinney, Christine Herron and Jesse Struk; great grandchildren Kenny William, Katie Snyder, Kasey Snyder, Courtney Snyder, Bethany Gates, Jaylan Sharpe, Jakyla McKinney, Yonnie McGillis, Myliegha McGillies, Ashley Herron, Jammie Herron, Lori Struk, and Junior Struk. favorite nephew and niece Joe and Susie Russell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Mary Sue Gates; brothers Dee Gates and Robert Gates; sisters Pauline Howard, Bertha Hall, Myrtle Mae Wilkie and Ethel Dillon; Ronald Lee, Robin Simpson and favorite brother-in-law and best friend Ronnie Jones.

His funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Nelson Hope officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont.

His family will receive friends one hour before the service.
