Jack Timmons

April 14, 1928 — March 16, 2013

Lincolnton, North Carolina

Jack Gilbert Timmons, 84, passed away March 16, 2013, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born April 14, 1928, in Gaston County, son of the Late Fred Lee Timmons and Bertha Clark Timmons.
Jack was an avid car lover. He competed in dirt track racing in the 1950's and 60's. This love of racing continued and he became a devoted Nascar fan. Jack looked forward to "race day" every week and loved watching them with his buddy, Adrian Beam. He also loved gospel music. Jack was a kind and gentle soul, a man who never met a stranger. He cherished his friendships, those with his "driving buddies" or those with his childhood friends that had withstood 60 or more years. His daughter and granddaughters were the light of his life.
He retired from Parkdale Mills in Gastonia after 29 years of service. After retirement until 2011, he drove as a car transporter for various dealerships in Gastonia.
Jack was proud of his service as a Master Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Gaston Lodge No. 263, Dallas and a member of the Scottish Rites, Charlotte. He was a Shriner with Oasis Temple of Charlotte and participated in the Rag Top Unit. He received his 60-year pin from the Gaston Lodge in May, 2012.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Faye Timmons Hovis and great-grandson, Jax Lee Martin.
Left to treasure his memory are his loving daughter, Linda and husband, Barry Willis; his precious grandchildren, Brooke Willis Martin and husband Josh Martin, and Brittany Willis and fiancé, Adrian Parsons; great-grandchildren, Sadie Burchfield, Liam Martin and Levi Martin.
Heartfelt love and appreciation to his "driving buddies": Jenny Crosby, Dennis "Beatle" Cuthbertson, D.J. Keller, Patsy Sanford, Clyde Smith, Harold "Swanny" Swanson and Jim Warnock and his dear friends, Adrian Beam, Ronnie Cole, Paul Finger and Tammy Hoffman.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church in Bessemer City with Rev. Wes Brown and Rev. Dick Whitener officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his great-grandson, Jax Lee Martin.
Pallbearers are Adrian Beam, Tim Farris, Josh Martin, Adrian Parsons, Clyde Smith, Jim Warnock.
