Jackie L Capps, "Pawpaw", beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Robin Johnson House. He was 78.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of almost 56 years, Glenda Ballew Capps; his son, Todd Capps and wife Melissa of Gastonia, son, Bruce Capps and wife Sharon of Kings Mountain; Scott and Christie Looper of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Jordan Capps and wife Erin, Sarabeth Capps, Kayla Capps and Ethan Capps. Also his beloved friend and faithful companion, Lucy.
Born on March 26, 1938, Jackie was the son of the late R.B. Capps and Evelyn Neal Capps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Horace Capps and his sister Collie Ann Bridges. Jackie was a lifelong resident of Bessemer City where he was a lifelong member and served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church of Bessemer City. Jackie served as past President of Bessemer City Optimist Club and Bessemer City High School Sports Booster Club.
Jackie was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an officer with a Military Police Corps K9 unit. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway.
Jackie's deep love for his family and friends, and his boundless spirit of hospitality, touched the lives of all who knew him. Jackie loved to fish and was a fisher of men. He set the bar high as a loving father to three boys, a wonderful Pawpaw to his four grandchildren and faithful friend to many. He enjoyed welcoming guests to his home, a gathering place filled with love and laughter. Jackie was a man of faith and strength, and his legacy of taking care of those around him and celebrating life will live on with his sons and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27th from 6 to 8pm at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City.
A Celebration of Jackie's life will be held at 11:00am Thursday, July 28th at First Baptist Church of Bessemer City with the Rev. Tom Ravan, Dr. Charles Brawley and the Rev. Steve Weaver officiating.
Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with full military honors by the Bessemer City American Legion Post 243 Honor Guard
