James Ramsey

James Curtis "Jimmy" Ramsey, Sr., 81, of Bessemer City, passed away on October 7, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 25, 1934 in Gaston County, to the late Albert A. and Vaudie Sarvice Ramsey.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis Ramsey and John R. " Bobby" Ramsey.

Jimmy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Bessemer City and a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of the Whetstone Lodge #515 and Bessemer City American Legion Post 243. Jimmy retired from Western Electric (later AT&T) after 35 years of service. He served on the Bessemer City Council from 1971 thru 1974 and then served as Mayor in 1975.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Leona Ramsey; sons, Jamie Ramsey and wife Shannon, Brian Ramsey; granddaughters, Landyn Ramsey and Anna Ramsey.

His memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 10, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Bessemer City, with Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 pm before the service at the church and other times at the home of Jamie and Shannon Ramsey
