Joan Penner Berry, 84, passed away at CaroMont Regional Medical Center on Thursday, February 25, 2021. She was born December 18, 1936 in Gaston County to M.O. Penner and Kathryn Kiser Penner.
She was preceded in death by her sons Mark Berry and Danny Berry.
Joan was a lifelong member of Long Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was a choir member, leader of the Women’s Ministry and active in all other activities at the church. She was retired from Western Auto, and formerly worked at Homelite.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cook, gardener, quilter, and cake maker.
Left to cherish her memories is her husband of 65 years Robert David Berry, Sr.; son David Berry, Jr. (Cheryl); brothers O.G. Penner (Nell), David Penner (Mary); sister Patsy Welch; grandchildren Matthew Berry (Elizabeth), Heather Propst (Landon), Katie Mitchem (Kyle), Rebecca Philbeck (William), Christina Thomas (Kris), Jonathan Berry (Liz), and Michael Berry; great-granddaughter Emily Duncan (Andy), Charlie Philbeck, Charlotte, Alexander, Zach, and Maksim Thomas and Gwen Berry; and her fur baby Harley.
She will lie in state from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Long Creek Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 28, 2021.
Joan’s funeral service will be held 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Long Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jason Davenport and Dr. Charles Davenport officiating.
Interment will follow at Long Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
