Joe Carroll Goates, 65, of Bessemer City went to be with Jesus on March 6, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born September 19, 1948 in Greenville, Texas to Edith Burch Goates of Texas and the late Joe Elbert Goates.

Joe retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years and worked at Great Dane Trailers in Charlotte. He was a member of Gastonia Church of Christ for 27 years where he was a song leader. Joe loved his church and singing.

In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by his son, Pastors Tim Goates and wife Angel of Dallas; daughter, Lyndi Parrish and husband Frank of Bessemer City; his children's mother, Karen Hayes Philbeck of Bessemer City; brother, Don Goates of Texas; sisters, Linda Breese of California, Patti Tarrant of Texas; grandchildren, Kailee Goates and Christian Parrish.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City with Mike Morton and Fred Morrison officiating.

Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home and other times at 315 E. Florida Avenue, Bessemer City.
