John Harris

John Lee Harris, 69, passed away at Catawba Hospice House in Newton, on Wednesday December 21, 2016. He was the son of the late J. Harris and Pearlie Willard Harris.

John was a Vietnam veteran; who maintained a lifelong interest in the Military and fellow veterans. He achieved the rank of Specialist E4, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism in the Republic of Vietnam on 22 December 1967.
Before his retirement; John worked in textiles, and in security work as well as being a warehouse manager at the former Highland Mills in Charlotte.
John enjoyed his hobby of collecting militaria, and was featured in area newspapers, for his displays at public libraries.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Teresa Greene Harris and his daughters, Michelle Blanton and husband, William of Tallahassee, Fl.; Robin Hyde and husband Robert of Clover, S. C. as well as his sister, Diane Belt, of Gastonia, N. C.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andy Harris and Phil Harris.

A Time of Celebration will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services.
