John William Poindexter

John William Poindexter, 57, of Gastonia, passed away at Robin Johnson House on May 3, 2024. He was born September 19, 1966, in Gaston County, to Brenda “Irene” Poindexter and the late Kenneth Dale Poindexter. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Dale Poindexter, and longtime companion, Becky Lively. 

John enjoyed playing the drums and he was an avid outdoors man. He loved to hunt, fish, and just be outside. He was an awesome cook and he loved to cook for others. He also liked helping others, and he was a personal care giver to many friends. 

Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Devin Poindexter (Melissa), Josh Poindexter; mother, Brenda “Irene” Poindexter; brother, Michael Poindexter; grandchildren, Brooklyn Thompson, Madysun Poindexter; beloved dog, Brinney Poindexter; nephew; Cody Poindexter; best friend, Swan.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, Gastonia, on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

John’s Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 PM with Rev. Mike Wilson and Rev. Ted Cole III officiating.

Inurnment will be with the family.

Following the service, Bethel Freewill Baptist will provide a meal for the family and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Calvary Freewill Baptist Church or Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
