Joyce Rebecca Black, 88, of Gastonia, passed away at home on January 17, 2024. She was born August 4, 1935, in Gaston County, to the late Henry W. Parker and Rebecca E Stroupe. She worked at Firestone Mill for 37 years as a supervisor. Joyce was a member at Yorkwood Church of God in Gastonia where she served as an usher. She loved going to church and loved God. Her son-in-law would say, "she was a voice of reason." Joyce was a hard worker, very competitive, but was also a jokester. She loved going to the beach with her family and playing cards or bowling. Joyce was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She will greatly be missed but will forever be in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by son, William Eddie Black; daughter, Terri Smith; brothers, Howard Parker, James “Skip” Parker, Arthur Parker; sister, Ruth Parker, Jewel Wall, Dorothy Parker; granddaughter, Amber Rebecca Smith.
Left to cherish her memories are daughters, June Fraley (Danny), Sue Gilbert (Jeff), Deborah Hoffman (Mark), daughter-in-law, Freida Black; grandchildren, Scott Hoffman, Christy Kiser (Shawn), Greg Hoffman (Liberty), Lindsay Black, Justin Fraley (Annette), Josh Gilbert (Morgan), Billy Smith, Justin Goble, Kirstin Griffin (Scotty), Kalin Wilson (Dillon), and Jordan Huskins (Cole): great grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah, Carl, Skylar, Morgan, Baylee, Noah, Alyssa, Marlene, Melodie, Morgan, Lane, Jackson, Tatum, Rynlee, Katie, Jacob; lifelong friend, James Cotter.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Yorkwood Church of God, Gastonia, on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Joyce’s Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Chris Kennedy officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
