Joyce Carpenter

Marilyn Joyce Carpenter, 88, of Greensboro, passed away at Richland Square on February 15, 2024. She was born June 13, 1935, in Gaston County, to the late William Doyle Lee and Mary Myers Lee.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Donald Carpenter; son, John Carpenter; brothers, Bill Lee, Jerry Lee.  

Joyce was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Bessemer City. She was a loving mom. Her love of watching hummingbirds had a special place in her heart. She enjoyed feeding them and she fed every hummingbird in Bessemer City.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Katherine Hovis (Ed) of Greensboro; daughter-in-law, Liz Simpson (Eric) of Bessemer City; sisters, Peggy Miller, Nancy Farrar; special friend, Cathy Lineberger; grandchildren, Amanda Grooms (Mitch) of Bessemer City, Alan Carpenter (Lindsay) of Grover, Kyle Hovis (Rebecca) of Raleigh, Richard Hovis (Katherine) of Pfafftown; great grandchildren, Tyler Grooms, Kailey Grooms, Iris Carpenter, Jasper Carpenter, Daisy Hovis; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce’s Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 19, 2024, at First Wesleyan Church with Pastor Matt Mitchell and Pastor Richard Leissner officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Association or to Hospice of Greensboro.
