Leona Mitchell

Leona Hudson Mitchell, 94, of Bessemer City, passed away on February 25, 2015 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby. She was born in Gaston County on March 7, 1920 to the late A. F. and Margaret Gamble Hudson.

Leona was a member of Garrison ARP Church of Bessemer City.
The family wishes to thank caregiver,Delores Baucom of Home Instead and Hospice of Cleveland County for their wonderful care.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, J.C. "Ches" Mitchell; siblings and spouses, Pauline Stroupe (Russell), Zelma Hudson, Thomas "Alfred" Hudson (Blanche); sons-in-law, Roy Schroeder and Michael Patterson.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Schroeder and Virginia "Ginger" Patterson; grandchildren, Michele VanHare (Greg), Shannon Fanning(Michael), Darrren Tarwater (Michelle), Terrie Walser, Ashley Patterson (Michael Withers), Duncan Patterson, Robert and Kathy Rogers; great-grandchildren, Alison, Elizabeth and Cassandra Fanning, Jason and Sarah VanHare, Abigail Patterson, Michael, Colby, Mackenzie and Mandy Tarwater; also former son-in-law, William A. Rogers, Jr.; siblings, Margaret Caldwell, Mildred Rhyne (Bill), Don Hudson (Lucy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City.

Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Hickory Grove Cemetery, SC with Rev. Tim Spencer officiating.
