Major John Starnes

Major John P. (Pat) Starnes, 89, passed away at CaroMont Regional Medical Center on Saturday, January 23, 2021. He was born August 30, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Mack Kal and Chloe Payne Starnes.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dianne Rhyne Starnes; brother Harry Starnes; sisters Betty Starnes Shubert and Maxella Starnes.

Pat was a United States Army Veteran, retired Major from the Gaston County Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After retirement he enjoyed wood working.

Left to cherish his memories are his children Cory Hulton Starnes (Kim), of Gastonia; Cindy Starnes Thomas (Steve) of Gastonia, Mark P. Starnes (Wanda) of Granite Falls, Mack K. Starnes (Susan) of Gastonia and Candice Starnes Rednour of Bessemer City; 9 grandchildren, Kim Thomas Oldham, Jeffrey Steven Thomas, Amy Marie Pearson, Matt Rednour, Gary Adam Brown, Ben Rednour, Taryn Scruggs, John Patrick Starnes, and Addison Leigh Starnes; 10 great-grandchildren and a menagerie of beloved fur babies.

He will lie in state from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Pat’s Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Chapel of Sisk-Butler Funeral Home with Mr. Steve Thomas officiating.

Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with funeral honors by the Gaston County Police Department.
