Mary Goodnight

Mary Elizabeth Blackwelder Goodnight, 94, passed away at Carolina Care on Sunday, March 7, 2021. She was born November 12, 1926 in Iredell County to the late Olin E. Blackwelder and Eleanor Mae Blackwelder Lackey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bryte H. Goodnight, Sr.; sister Sara Daniell and husband Hugh Daniell.

Elizabeth worked as a plant nurse at Honeywell, Inc. in Bessemer City, NC. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bessemer City, as well.

Left to cherish her memories are her children Bryte H. Goodnight, Jr. (Carla Goodnight) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Barbara Delane Goodnight Aston (Dave Aston) of SC; grandsons Robert Mowlds (Angie Mowlds) of Gastonia, and Chad Goodnight (Mallory Goodnight) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; granddaughter Courtney Cattaneo (Anthony Cattaneo) of Leland, NC; and great grandchildren Abbey Mowlds, Graysen Goodnight, Alex Mowlds, Ethan Goodnight, Charlotte Cattaneo, and Eleanor Cattaneo.

She will lie in state from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM at Sisk Butler Funeral Home on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Elizabeth’s graveside service will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Bessemer City Memorial with Rev. Kitty Rankin officiating.
