Melissa Costner

Melissa Abernethy Costner, 56, of Blacksburg, passed away on April 15, 2016 at home. She was born on January 7, 1960 in Gaston County, to the late Joe R. Abernethy and Peggy Capps Barton.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joanie and brother Johnny.

Melissa is survived by her husband Willie Costner; her daughters, Brooke Abernethy and fiancé Jason Hughes of Blacksburg, SC and Ashley Swafford of Shelby; step-daughters, Amanda Costner and Tiffany Costner, both of Blacksburg; step-son, Billy Costner of Blacksburg; 12 grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in the Sisk-Butler Chapel with the Rev. Larry Laws officiating.

Interment will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
