Nellie Maney

Nellie Mae Trapp Maney, “aka Mama Nell”, 91, of Gastonia, passed away at her daughter’s residence on April 28, 2022. She was born May 8, 1930, in Rutherford County, to the late Modie Dove Trapp and Elizabeth Green Trapp.

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, James Hyman Maney; sisters Eunice Fish and Dorothy DiGirolamo; son-in-law David Alm.

Nellie retired from Textiles after many years, then worked in Gaston County Schools Cafeterias. She was a longtime member of the Myrtle United Methodist Church, Gastonia.

Because she was orphaned at the age of 4 and spent most of her childhood in a children’s home, family was very important to Nellie. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and care giver with a strong Christian faith. She was loved by all.

Her many talents included, singing in the choir, and sharing children’s stories at church, flower arranging, and bow making. She was famous for her steak and gravy. She loved feeding her birds, squirrels, and watching FOX news.

She leaves a void that no one can fill.

Left to cherish her memories are daughters, Judy Maney Alm and Katrina Maney; grandsons Chris Alm (Leslie), Jody Alm (Nicole), and Jamie Price (Meredith); great-grandchildren William, Brittany, Jonah, Bayleigh, Wesley, Daniel and Madison; great-great-granddaughter Jolie Rae; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM at Myrtle United Methodist Church, Gastonia.

Nellie’s memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Myrtle United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Ramsey officiating.

Interment will be private at Edgewood Cemetery.
