Owen Craig Chronister, 80, of Bessemer City passed away on October 12, 2013 at Morningside Assisted Living. He was born March 11, 1933 in Gaston County, NC, to the late Reedy Augustus "Gus" and Pansy Jane Craig Chronister.
Owen joined the United States Navy at age 17 and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as Vice-President of Production at Carolina Brush Company in Gastonia for over 30 years. He was an amazing husband that loved his wife Gloria dearly and for the past twenty years dedicated himself to being her caregiver as her health declined. Owen loved spending time on Lake Norman with family & friends and fishing on his pontoon boat. He enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren immensely.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Gloria Stillwell Chronister; daughters, Gwendolyn Nenninger & husband Edward of Gastonia and Candace Lawrence & husband David of Morganton, NC; grandchildren England A. Teets & wife Ellen McGinnis of Denver, CO, Anna E. Lawrence of Salisbury, NC, and Jonathan D. Lawrence of Morganton; brother Keith A. Chronister of Iron Station.
He was preceded in death by brothers Reedy Chronister and Gary Chronister
His funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City with Revs. David Lawrence and Keith Chronister officiating.
Interment will follow in Westview Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer City, with military rites by Bessemer City American Legion Honor Guard, Post 243.
His family will receive friends one hour prior the service at the funeral home.
