Ray Flowers

Ernest Ray Flowers, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his daughter's home in Cunningham, TN. He was born October 25, 1931 in Gaston County, NC to the late Walter G. and Ola Pennington Flowers. Bessemer City was his home for all but the last two years of his adult life. Illness made it necessary to join his daughter and son in law in Cunningham, TN - his last earthly home.

Ray served in the United States Army from January 1953 to January 1955 with duty in Korea. He received his honorable discharge from the USAR on January 20, 1961.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine Goins Flowers and will be buried beside her at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter Raelene and husband Rey Velez; sisters, Irene Davis and Lois Owensby; granddaughters Serena Drinkwater and Melody Skernivitz and seven great grandchildren.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City, NC.

A Graveside service, with Military Honors, will be held at 3 pm on Saturday April 1, 2017 at the Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain (COL) Reinaldo Velez, US Army (Retired) officiating.
