“Gene” Rohm, 73, of Dallas, passed away at Atrium Health in Lincolnton, NC. on July 27, 2023. He was born March 4, 1950, in Gaston County, to the late Arthur Rohm Sr. and Clara Cloninger Rohm.
He is preceded in death by daughter, Lynn Hamm; sister, Francis Holcomb, and brother, Arthur Rohm Jr.
Gene was a graduate of Dallas High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a bachelor's degree in English and a master’s degree in educational administration. A former Gaston County Schools principal, he was self-employed, and the owner of Rohm Enterprises Inc. Gene was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas, NC. He was as a Sunday School teacher, on the church counsel, sang in the Senior choir and the Gentlemen’s Songsters quartet of Dallas NC. He was faithful in his service for the Lord. Gene was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to go saltwater fishing with his family and friends. He was a true Tarheel fan and would watch all the ball games. Gene loved farming ever since he was a kid and would share his crops with everyone.
Those left to cherish Gene’s memories include his wife of 32 years, Grace Harbin Rohm; daughters, Shelley Rohm (Beth Joyce) of Serra d’El-Rei, Portugal, Courtney Carroll of Raleigh; son-in-law, Nathan Hamm, Sr. (Kristi) of Gastonia; granddaughters, Kelli King (Scott) and Emily Stinnett (Jacob); grandson, Nathan “Nate” Hamm Jr.; great grandchildren, Stella Lynn King, and Adalynn King, Kensi Carroll, Kaili Boyd, Katelyn Boyd; special lifetime friends, Joe Rhyne, David Costner, Ronnie Cloninger, and Jason Ramey.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas, NC on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Gene’s funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev Dr John Spencer officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
