Rev. Dorothy Lowery

Rev. Dorothy (Hicks) Lowery, 94, passed away at the residence of her granddaughter, Lisa Thompson Thornton, on Friday, March 12, 2021. She was born January 10, 1927, in Gaston County to the late Guy Olin Hicks and Pearl H. Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jesse Lee Lowery, and son, Randall Lee Lowery.

Dorothy graduated from Bessemer City High School, Class of 1944, and Cleveland Bible Training School, Class of 46, (now known as Lee University). She was Pastor at Westside Assembly of Faith until February, 2020.   She founded the “BREAD” Food Bank, and fed thousands of families In her later years.  She lived her entire life in service to God, serving in many different locations as she founded mission ministries.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Sharon Lowery Thompson, and husband, Wayne; Karen Lowery Harris, and husband, Doug. Granddaughters, Lisa Thompson Thornton, (Bryan), Stephanie Thompson Woodard, (Jason).  Grandsons, Christopher Harris, Benjamin Harris, (Cassidy), Jonathon Harris, and Jefferson Harris.  Great-granddaughter, Abigaile Woodard, great-grandsons, Matthew Thompson, David Remy, Jake Woodard, and Zachary Ellis.  Also left to cherish her memory is her sister & best friend, Frances Hicks Taylor (Monroe), and many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.

Dorothy will lie in state from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home on Friday, March 19, 2021.

A Christian Service & Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with the Revs Doug Harris & Matt Mitchell officiating.
