Rev. Wayne Spear

Rev. Wayne Asahel Grant Spear, 74, of Clover, SC, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children on February 2, 2022. He was born March 1, 1947, in Scott County, Iowa, to the late Cyrus Arthur and Barbara Vivian Ruth Hurd Spear.

Rev. Wayne was a United States Navy Veteran from 1968-1974. He was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College (now Southern Wesleyan University) and a graduate of Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO. Rev. Wayne was an ordained Wesleyan minister who served faithfully for nearly 40 years at numerous churches in the Carolinas and was currently serving at Firestone Wesleyan Church where he was a current member.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 40 years, Bonnie Spear; children, Benjamin Spear (Jaime), Amy Herriman (Neil), Anna Glenn (Jeremy), Julie Clyde (Thomas), and Eric Spear; sisters, Wanda Leonard (Craig), and Ruth Spear; brother, Tracy Spear (Cathy); grandchildren, Grant, Kendall, Lydia, Eli, Alexandra, Noah, Canaan, Killian, Asher, Silas, Kyrie, and Atlas.

Pastor Wayne’s funeral service will be held 10:30 AM on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Firestone Wesleyan Church, Gastonia with Rev. Don Avore officiating.

A reception for family and friends will be held in the Ministry Center following the service.
