Roy Gay Stinnett, Jr., 68, of Bessemer City, passed away on October 30, 2016 at his home. He was born in Gaston County, NC, on June 14, 1948, to the late Roy Gay Stinnett, Sr. and Mozelle Bradshaw Stinnett.
In addition to his parents, Gay was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Stinnett, Ronnie Stinnett; and his sister, Dorothy Stinnett.
Gay was a beloved member of the Bessemer City community. He graduated from Bessemer City High School and then earned a civil engineering degree from Gaston College. He was employed by his family business, Bessemer City-Kings Mountain Drive-In, for many years before becoming the owner/operator of A&A Grading and Hauling in 1968. Gay was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Bessemer City. His love for old cars helped him to become a charter member of the Carolina Cruisers Car Club. He was a world-travelled hunter, having hunted in Africa, Canada, Colorado, Montana, and many other places. He was bigger than life and never met a stranger. Gay was a member of the Whetstone Masonic Lodge #515 and the Crowder's Mountain Shrine Club. His passion was working his farm and tending to his cattle. Gay was a friend to everyone and he will be missed by all.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Estelle Gaddis Stinnett; sons, Ashton Stinnett and wife Shannon, Adrian Stinnett and wife Nichole, all of Bessemer City; daughter, Toscha Stinnett-Chandler and husband Chad of Murrells Inlet, SC; stepson, Kevin Sexton and wife Nicole of York, SC; stepdaughter, Tracy Bolin of Hickory Grove, SC; grandchildren, AJ Stinnett, Addison Stinnett, Hunter Stinnett, Alec Stinnett, Farrah Jane Chandler, Clint Sexton, Kaylynn Sexton; sisters, Pat Campbell of Bessemer City, Gaynelle Stinnett of Murrells Inlet, SC, Vickie Strell and husband William of Murrells Inlet, SC; brother, Rick Stinnett and wife Diane of Bessemer City.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 3, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Bessemer City, with Rev. Ronnie Simmons and Rev. Steve Weaver officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM. Wednesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services, Bessemer City.
Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
