Ruby Lee Keller Bess, 95, died peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2012, at The Robin Johnson Hospice House.  She was born December 12, 1916 in Gaston County and was the daughter of the late Robert Leroy and Mary Lydia Sharp Keller.

Ruby was formerly of Bessemer City and resided in Gastonia.  She dedicated her entire life to caring for and helping others, especially her family.  Her compassionate spirit and desire to care for others led her at the age of 71 to work as a Senior Patient Care Associate at Gaston Memorial Hospital until she retired at 79 years old. Ruby continued to stay active and enjoyed spending her time sewing, quilting and being with her family.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Gastonia and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Bessemer City and Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Ray Bess; brother, Robert Lee Keller, Jr.; sister, Margaret Summers; and

only son, Robert E. "Bob" Bess.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Jerry Westbrook of Gastonia; daughter-in-law, Ann Bess of Deland, Fl; four grandchildren, David Bess and wife Caralyn, of Deland. Fl; Rev. Darren Bess and wife Carol of Ocala, Fl., Courtney Kaylor and husband Sam and Brittney Westbrook all of Gastonia; eight great-grandchildren, Briley Hayley, Caleb and Chloe Bess of Ocala, Fl., Samuel and Madison Kaylor, Payton and Luke Capps all of Gastonia.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Bess beginning at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in the chapel at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City with Rev. Dickie Spargo and Rev. Darren Bess officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service from 3:00- 4:00 PM.

The burial will be private.  Our family is sincerely grateful to the staff at The Robin Johnson House for their exceptional care and compassion of Mrs. Bess and her family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Robin Johnson Hospice House, C/O Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054
