SARAH McCORMICK
Sarah Ida Lackey McCormick, 80 years old of 315 Sunset Drive, Bessemer City, North Carolina, died 25 March 2015 at Shelby Hospital. A native of Gaston County, NC. Daughter of the late Sarah Susan Kincaid Lackey and Richard Boyd Lackey, Sr. She made her home in Brevard, NC for forty-six years.
She was a retired teacher and librarian in the Transylvania County school system. A former member of the Transylvania county association of educations, serving as President, vice-president, and treasurer; National education association; former member of St. Timothy United Methodist church in Brevard NC. Serving as former chairperson of education, president of the United Methodist women, chairperson of Lydia circle, and member of church counsel and a trustee. Former treasurer of St. Timothy's Oak Grove cemetery for 31 years, and former chairman of Boy Scout Troop 703.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death beside by her beloved husband, George Douglas McCormick of Brevard, North Carolina and her brother, Richard Boyd Lackey, Jr. of Bessemer City NC.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Sidney White and wife Barbara of Bessemer City, NC and Charles Douglas McCormick of Gaeta, Italy, one daughter, Sara Elaine White Toney of Mooresboro, NC. Two sister-in-laws, Gloria Lackey of Bessemer City, NC and Helen M. Meece of Brevard, NC. Two grandsons, Larry Adam Woodall and wife, Linda of Charlotte, NC, Joseph Alvin Woodall and wife Amanda of Etowah, NC. Two granddaughters, Lora Gold and husband Kevin of Shelby, NC and
Amy Leigh Duncan of Maiden, NC. Three Great granddaughters, Taylor Drew Woodall of Lincolnton, NC., Brittany Lankford of Charlotte, NC, and Lilly Morgan Woodall of Etowah, NC. Two great grandsons, Garrett Alvin Woodall and Gatlin Lon Woodall of Etowah, North Carolina. Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Her beloved dog Luke.
Sarah's funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday March 28, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Bessemer City with the Revs. Carter Ellis and Doug McCormick officiating.
The visitation will be from 10 to 11 am at the church.
Her graveside service will be held at approximately 3:30 pm Saturday March 28th, 2015 in the St. Timothy United Methodist Church Oak Grove cemetery in Brevard NC.
