Shirley Rose Briggs Brown, 89, of Gastonia, passed away at Caromont Regional on June 13, 2024. She was born October 6, 1934, in Gaston County, to the late Carl Eli Briggs and Blanche Edna Smith Briggs.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Raymond Brown; siblings, Donald Briggs, Wayne Briggs, Bennie Briggs, Kenneth Briggs; Velma B. Carter, and Lois Briggs.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Firestone Wesleyan Church where she held many offices and was a children’s leader. She attended Central Wesleyan College and then graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University.. Shirley retired after 30 plus years of teaching in Gaston County Schools. She was a faithful friend and mentor to many, a prayer warrior, and a lover of the outdoors. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, her friends, and all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lisa Brown Costner (Blair); granddaughters, Lindsey Costner and Courtney Alston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley’s Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Firestone Wesleyan Church with Pastor Don Avore, Reverend Tim Clark, and Chaplain Nikki Fitzpatrick officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM before the service.
Interment will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Gaston Memorial Park.
