Sylvia "Mompy" Farris Stewart, 82, passed away peacefully at home, with her family around her, on Tuesday October 17, 2017. She was born June 15, 1935 in Cherokee County, SC, daughter to the late Daniel "Jess" and Bessie Smith Farris.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Herman Julius Stewart, son, Buddy Rose; brother, Tim Farris; sisters, Naomi Camp and Gladys Ellis; and her beloved Jr.

Sylvia was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Rose Hawkins of Kings Mountain, Lisa Rose Williams of Kings Mountain, Anita Rose Williams and Kenny of Kings Mountain, Sandy Rose Gilliland and Mark of Grover, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Anita Rose Mitchem and Greg of Gastonia; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday October 20, 2017 in the Sisk-Butler Chapel, Bessemer City, with the Rev. Kevin Mathis officiating.

Entombment will follow at Westview Gardens Mausoleum, Bessemer City.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Her family would like to thank the staffs of Kindred at Home of Shelby, and Cleveland Hospice for their support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150
