Virginia Costner

Virginia Puckett Costner, 88, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born April 28, 1926, in Burke County, to the late Francis M. and Molly Brown Puckett.

Virginia was a current member of the Bessemer City Church of God and a longtime member of Linwood Church of God and Crescent Lane Church of God which was founded by her sister and husband Rev. and Mrs. S.K. Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; John, Ernest, Lester, and Jim Puckett; sisters, Leona, Bertie, Pansy and Mary Lou Puckett, Walter Alexander, Ester Dishman and Beulah Carpenter.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Clyde Costner; her daughters Naomi Owens and husband Harold, Phyllis Ann Costner, Janet Thomas and husband Robert Sr. all of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Preston Owens Jr, Chad Owens, Justin Owens, Jamie Canipe, Jennifer Canipe, Robert Thomas Jr, Allison Thomas Cottingham; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Owens, Grayson Owens, Taylor Owens, Hannah Owens, Chance Cottingham, Sailor Cottingham, Ryder Cottingham, Robert "Liam" Thomas III, Kiptyn Thomas.

The family would like to thank Gaston Hospice for their kind and loving care of their precious mother.

Her funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bessemer City Church of God with the Rev. Harold Ashe officiating.

Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. before her funeral service at the church.
